New directions in the role of cell adhesion in multicellular systems

Cell-cell adhesion and cell-substrate adhesion form the basis of multicellular organisms. This symposium will cover a wide range of related topics, from the fundamental mechanisms of adhesion formation to the role of cell adhesion in various biological contexts such as morphogenesis, aging and organ regeneration. In particular, we will discuss cutting-edge topics at the forefront of cell adhesion research, such as how cell adhesion specificity arises from the combination of cell adhesion molecules (adhesion code) and how remodeling of the cell adhesion or basement membrane controls cell fate.
